How our FPO got a better rate by aggregating
Eighty of us in Kota pooled our coriander last season instead of selling individually. Individually we were getting mandi rate minus whatever the commission agent decided. Together we had 210 quintal in one lot, which is enough for a processor to send his own vehicle. The rate difference worked out to about Rs 240 per quintal. Not life changing per farmer, but it paid for the FPO running cost for the year and we learned how grading works. The hard part was not the selling. It was getting eighty people to grade and bag to the same standard.

How did you handle the ones whose quality was below the lot standard?

This is the model that actually works. Aggregation first, then the rate follows.
